Francisca Zúñiga

Director of Español en Chile Institute
Francisca Zúñiga has a degree in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She also completed a master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), Spain. Also, to complete her training, she has participated in numerous courses, workshops, and conferences related to the area. She has also undertaken other language courses, such as English in Canada and the US, and Italian in Italy. Her professional career involved working as a Spanish teacher for foreigners since 2009.
In 2012 she founded Español en Chile Institute and since then she assumed its direction. During 2018, she ran the institute while simultaneously teaching Spanish to diplomats and officials of the United Nations Organization (UN) at ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean). Since 2022 she works exclusively as director and coordinator of the school.

Constanza Arce

Spanish Teacher
Constanza graduated in 2021 as a Bachelor of Arts specialized in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). In the year 2022, she completed a diploma in of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university and graduated top of her class, with a 6.9 out of 7.0. She began teaching Spanish to foreigners during undergraduate years. She was involved in the creation of a Language Learning Manual for the Jesuit Migrant Service, an experience that encouraged her to pursue a career in teaching Spanish. Her great interest in literature led her to become teachers’ assistant for the Spanish Literature subject during her undergraduate training. In addition, she has great interest in language learning and the impact this has on cultural exchange. Constanza has an intermediate-advanced level of English (IELTS General Training) and is currently learning Korean, motivated by her interest in the history and culture of that country. She has worked in the area of text editing and proofreading and continues to collaborate in literary research.

Raúl Córtes

Spanish Teacher
Raúl is an English-Spanish translator who graduated from the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura (UCBC) and is fluent in both languages. His fascination for teaching Spanish blossomed during his university years, motivating him to complete the Diploma of Specialization in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Raúl has extensive language teaching experience and has taught English and Spanish in various schools and educational institutions. Currently, he is passionately dedicated to providing private lessons and collaborating with several language centers, where he shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for languages with his students. His commitment to excellence and ability to adapt to the individual needs of his students make him a highly valued and respected teacher in his field.

Armando Carvajal

Spanish Teacher
Armando holds a degree in Literature with a specialization in Text Editing from the Universidad Finis Terrae (UFT). During his studies, he discovered a passion for teaching and applied linguistics, sparking his interest in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Pursuing this further, he completed specialized training courses at Tía Tula Spanish School in Salamanca, Spain, where he gained pedagogical expertise in Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) instruction. To deepen his knowledge, he earned a Master’s in Linguistics (with a focus on Spanish Language) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language from the University of Chile (UCH). His master’s research centered on language policies for teaching Spanish as a second language. Armando began his ELE teaching career in virtual settings, which prompted him to train in online teaching strategies through Tía Tula Spanish School. He has taught in diverse contexts, including programs for refugee students of various nationalities, and has experience in both private tutoring and classroom instruction. Beyond teaching, Armando researches second language acquisition, bilingualism, and language policies in migration contexts. He has participated in academic conferences and symposiums, contributing to discussions on Spanish instruction in linguistically and culturally diverse environments.

Pilar Leiva

Spanish Teacher
Pilar graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Literature with a major in Linguistics and Hispanic Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). That same year, she discovered her calling for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language while taking the course Challenging Milestones in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, which led her to participate in activities aimed at international students in the Spanish UC program. In 2012, she earned her teaching degree in Spanish Language and Communication from Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) and began her professional career teaching Spanish as a foreign language in prestigious institutions in Santiago. In 2025, she completed a Master’s in Linguistics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), where she specialized in Spanish dialectal variation and the development of interlanguage in learners of Spanish as a foreign language. Pilar is currently improving her English language skills and conducting independent research. Her work has been published in both national and international academic journals. Her dynamic and professional approach, along with a strong background in linguistics, make her as a committed educator focused on meaningful learning and a reflective, context-based approach to Spanish language teaching.

Christel Ramírez

Spanish Teacher
Christel graduated from the Linguistics and English Literature from the Universidad de Chile (UCH), where she was first introduced to Teaching Spanish as a Second Language through elective courses. By the end of the program, she volunteered in the Language Conversation Partner Program offered by Stanford University (SU), where she engaged with learners of Spanish from diverse cultural backgrounds, strengthening her interest in language teaching. In 2023, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second and Foreign Language (ELE) at the Universidad de Chile (UCH), where she also volunteered in the language support program for Brazilian students seeking to become Spanish teachers. She speaks English as a foreign language and has experience in teaching and assessing both Spanish and English, working with children, teenagers, and adults. She has worked as an examiner in schools and as a language instructor at language institutes, teaching Spanish to students from Japan, the United States, Australia, Canada, China, India, and France. She follows the communicative language teaching (CLT) methodology on par with a sociocultural approach. She aims to enable students to communicate effectively in various contexts by developing their communicative competence, while emphasizing the importance of Chilean Spanish as a valid variety of the language.

Sabina Canales

Spanish Teacher
Sabina Canales has a degree in Language and Literature from the Univesidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH). She graduated in 2019 but has taught general and business Spanish to immigrants as well as in other Spanish teaching institutions since 2018. In 2020 she completed the Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile. She has been certified as an examiner in the two official Spanish tests, SIELE and DELE, in the latter she has her certification at all levels (A1-C2 and school). She currently works at the Laboratory of Phonetics and Language Sciences UAH as a research assistant which has allowed her to enrich her skills to explain the orality of Chilean Spanish. She is also studying a Master's in Health Psychology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile, where she studies linguistics from an interdisciplinary approach. Her research mainly deals with sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics, delving into topics such as the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language and effective communication.

Eyleen Prieto

Eyleen holds a BA Language, specializing in Linguistics, graduating in 2012 from UCLV in Santa Clara, Cuba. With a diverse career that spans teaching at the University of Arts in Havana to her current role as a Spanish teacher on a prominent online platform, she has consistently demonstrated her proficiency in guiding students of varying levels and nationalities. Eyleen excels at tailoring her teaching materials to address the unique needs of her students. Residing in Chile since 2015, Eyleen has developed a deep familiarity with the Spanish spoken in Chile, which has allowed her to adjust her teaching to accommodate her diverse student base's linguistic and cultural requirements. Julián Hernández

Spanish Teacher
Julián has a degree in Literature, Linguistics, and Aesthetics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). He has worked as a Spanish teacher since 2021, giving private lessons and teaching Spanish to refugees in humanitarian aid programs. In 2023, he completed a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university (PUC). During his studies, he developed an interest in language teaching and learning, eventually learning French, Portuguese, and English. Furthermore, after completing his degree in Aesthetics in 2024, Julián developed a particular interest in literature and its relationship with psychology and philosophy. He currently works as a teacher at various language institutes, motivating and inspiring his students. He also has a particular interest in reading and creative writing, participating in various reading clubs and writing workshops. This calling helps bring new and different perspectives to his Spanish classes.

Amílcar Noguera

Spanish Teacher
Amílcar is a professional Spanish-English-Italian translator, who graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 2010. He has a wide knowledge of translation techniques for technical manuals and texts related to the IT field. In 2012 he earned an Associate Degree in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language from the same Universidad Central de Venezuela and since then has taught Spanish for both general and business purposes. Currently, he provides services for the Australian Embassy in Santiago. He defines himself as a "citizen of the world" with a friendly personality and adaptablility to any type of situation.

Catalina Espinosa

Spanish Teacher
She holds a degree in Education with concentrations in French and French Teaching from the Universidad de Ciencias de la Educación, UMCE (2012). In 2010 and 2011, she moved to Saint-Céré, France, to teach Spanish to children and young adults in different schools in the Toulouse region of southern France. Through this experience, French became Catalina’s second language. She also realized her love of teaching Spanish language and culture, and dedicated herself to this passion upon her return to Chile. Since 2011, she has taught Spanish privately and in language schools to students from all over the world. Catalina also has an artistic side. For more than six years, she participated in her university’s chorus, which led her to tour throughout South America. She also participated in various theater, storytelling, and plastic arts groups. These interests have greatly enriched her work as a teacher of foreign languages, along with her love of learning about new cultures and traveling.  

Gabriela Gateño

Spanish Teacher
Gabriela has a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Universidad de Chile (UCH). She also holds a masters’ degree in Literature from the same university and obtained her Spanish teacher degree at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile. Her areas of academic interest focus mainly on poetry and philosophy. Areas in which she has specialized in her postgraduate thesis. With extensive experience in the field of teaching, she has taught literature classes at universities, colleges, academies, and cultural centers. Likewise, she has had vast experience teaching Spanish to foreigners in highly prestigious institutes nationwide, complementing this teaching work with the management of cultural and educational projects in embassies. She currently dedicates herself to university teaching, giving seminars, and teaching literature workshops.

César Noriega

Spanish Teacher
César is a journalist and Spanish professor. In 2016, César moved from Venezuela to Chile. Over the years, he has internalized the nuances of the Chilean Spanish variety and considers it important to explain and integrate them into his teaching approach. Since earning his degree in Journalism at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Venezuela (UCAB), he has worked with language as a communication tool to describe, narrate, and highlight the importance of complex realities. His passion for teaching Spanish led him to complete a Master's in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in Spain. He has taught Spanish to multinational executives, university students, and diplomatic representatives, delivering instruction both online and in person. César speaks English at a C1 proficiency level and can also communicate in German at a B1 level. In his classes, he incorporates moments for language reflection, practical application, and cultural immersion, always connecting the language to Chilean and Latin American contexts. As a journalist, César enjoys bringing current affairs discussions into the classroom, along with references to history, literature, and other cultural aspects of Latin America.

William Godoy

Spanish Teacher
William Godoy is an English Teacher and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Education in English (USACH). He also holds a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (PUC) and a Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Nottingham (UoN). He has worked as an English teacher in secondary education, tertiary education and as academic coordinator. He also teaches Spanish to foreigners living in Santiago and to students abroad through online classes. He is a DELE B1 and B2 examiner and also holds a certificate in teaching Spanish to children. In addition to English, he has knowledge of German, French and is currently studying Japanese. This latter has improved his approach to language teaching and learning, being able to detect the difficulties that a student speaking these languages might have. His area of interest is the acquisition and teaching of collocations. Other areas of interest are corpus linguistics, material design and intercultural communication.

Javier Garrido

Spanish Teacher
Javier Garrido is an English Teacher graduated from Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH). He graduated in 2017 after successfully completing an exchange program with the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2018, he has worked as an English teacher for Elementary and High School students. There, Javier has been in charge of two generations of students as a Head Teacher. Since 2018, Javier has been supporting undergraduate and graduate students preparing them for taking the TOEFL IBT international exam, planning and implementing customized programs for students seeking to study abroad. In 2024, he decided to study a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universidad de Chile (UCH), seeking to formalize his language teaching knowledge and incorporate new strategies to help foreigners living in Chile. He is characterized by a cheerful personality, as well as an ability to plan courses according to each student's context and personal history. In his free time, he enjoys drawing and painting, hiking through the countless mountains, biking around the city, and cooking vegetarian food.

Claudia Valenzuela

Spanish Teacher
Claudia has a bachelors’ degree in Education with a specialization in French from the Universidad de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE) and a Basic General Professor degree from the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (UAHC). She began teaching Spanish during her internship in France in the Brittany region at the Lycée René Cassin in 2006 and 2007. Upon her return to Chile, she worked both as a Spanish and French teacher for children, youth, and adults in prestigious language institutes in Santiago. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, her work as a professor has two aspects: on the one hand, teaching the language to Chilean students learning French, and on the other hand, teaching Spanish to foreign students, both inside and outside of Chile. One of the things that fills her with satisfaction is teaching. Her passion is to deliver knowledge and help people communicate and express themselves in both Spanish and French. She is characterized by being very cheerful, which generates pleasant and playful environments in her classes. This facilitates the acquisition of new knowledge and promotes the teaching-learning process.

Rocío Torres

Spanish Teacher
Rocío has a BA in Translation (English and French) and graduated in 2019 from the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC). Her interest in language innovations inspired her to write her dissertation on the synchronic changes in Spanish vocabulary in terms of inclusive language. Since 2019, she has translated administrative documents, mainly from Spanish into English, and was part of the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters (COTICH) from January 2022 to June 2023. In 2020, she obtained her DELF B2 diploma in French. This allowed her to work for six months as a Spanish teaching assistant in two schools in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region in France. In 2023, she obtained her Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) diploma to certify her level of English and continued her professional path by giving on-site classes in Concepción. Thanks to her growing passion for her native language, she did her Master’s degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Teaching and Research in the Universidad de Valladolid (UVa), Spain, between 2023 and 2024. In early 2024, she also did her master’s internship in the Language Center of the Universidad de Valladolid, lecturing on culture and speaking to start her career path in the field.

Ángela Galdames

Spanish Teacher
Ángela holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Literature and Linguistics, as well as a Degree in Aesthetics with a concentration in Audiovisuals, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She also has a Graduate Degree in the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) from the same institution. In 2017, she was certified by the Cervantes Institute to prepare students for the SIELE Exam (International Evaluation Service of the Spanish Language). She has taken an English course, which allows her to use English as a Foreign Language, as well as several workshops, which have added to her area of expertise. These have helped her complete her training as a professor in Hispanic language and culture. Currently Ángela is also working as a language and literature professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).

Amanda Moreno

Spanish Teacher
Amanda Moreno has a BA in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). In 2022, she completed the Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a great interest in Discourse Studies and the policies of Cultural Inclusion in Chile, which led her to participate in the Fondecyt 11181159 Project as part of her thesis.
In 2016 she had the opportunity go on a student exchange program in England, Canterbury, where she studied English and obtained a certificate from the Concorde International Study Center. She is currently taking German lessons because of her interest in the country's culture and literature.
Amanda has experience giving private language classes and correcting academic texts. Nowadays, she is teaching Spanish in a renowned online language teaching and learning platform.

Bárbara Ferrada

Spanish Teacher
Bárbara holds a degree in Language and Literature from Universidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH), where she volunteered in a Spanish program for Haitian migrants, an experience that sparked her passion for teaching the language. In 2024, she completed a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Bárbara excels not only in Spanish but also has a strong command of both spoken and written English and French. She is currently working in academic research as an assistant in the Phonetics and Language Sciences Laboratory at Universidad Alberto Hurtado. Her academic interests include oral expression, grammar, Artificial Intelligence, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). In her free time, Bárbara enjoys dancing, cooking, composing music, and learning programming languages.

María Ignacia Martínez

Spanish Teacher
María Ignacia graduated from the Universidad de Chile (UCH) with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. She went on to study English Language and Literature at the Universidad de Chile (UCH) as well. She volunteered with the program PME UChile, supporting exchange students with their Spanish and helping introduce them to Chilean culture. She has experience teaching private English and Spanish classes to adults and adolescents. She has also worked serving as a bilingual interviewer for the National Tourism Service. Her passion for engaging with other cultures has led her to learn French and Portuguese. She also took an introductory Swedish course at the Chilean Swedish Institute of Culture in 2020. In 2021, she completed a post-graduate program in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile.
