Who we are

Español en Chile Institute is a language school located in Santiago de Chile. Our teachers, all experienced and certified lecturers, offer Spanish classes for all levels from A1 to C2 (according to CEFR) aimed at children, teenagers, and adults.

Francisca Zúñiga Millán

Director of Español en Chile Institute
Francisca has a degree in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She also completed a master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), Spain. Also, to complete her training, she has participated in numerous courses, workshops, and conferences related to the area. She has also undertaken other language courses, such as English in Canada and the United States, and Italian in Italy. Her professional career involved working as a Spanish teacher for foreigners since 2009. In 2012 she founded Español en Chile Institute and assumed its direction. During 2018, she ran the institute while simultaneously teaching Spanish to diplomats and officials of the United Nations Organization (UN) at ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean). Since 2022 she works exclusively as director and coordinator of the school.

Amanda Moreno

Spanish Teacher
Amanda Moreno has a BA in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). In 2022, she completed the Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a great interest in Discourse Studies and the policies of Cultural Inclusion in Chile, which led her to participate in the Fondecyt 11181159 Project as part of her thesis.
In 2016 she had the opportunity go on a student exchange program in England, Canterbury, where she studied English and obtained a certificate from the Concorde International Study Center. She is currently taking German lessons because of her interest in the country's culture and literature.
Amanda has experience giving private language classes and correcting academic texts. Nowadays, she is teaching Spanish in a renowned online language teaching and learning platform.

Constanza Arce

Spanish Teacher
Constanza graduated in 2021 as a Bachelor of Arts specialized in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). In the year 2022, she completed a diploma in of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the same university and graduated top of her class, with a 6.9 out of 7.0. She began teaching Spanish to foreigners during undergraduate years. She was involved in the creation of a Language Learning Manual for the Jesuit Migrant Service, an experience that encouraged her to pursue a career in teaching Spanish. Her great interest in literature led her to become teachers’ assistant for the Spanish Literature subject during her undergraduate training. In addition, she has great interest in language learning and the impact this has on cultural exchange. Constanza has an intermediate-advanced level of English (IELTS General Training) and is currently learning Korean, motivated by her interest in the history and culture of that country. She has worked in the area of text editing and proofreading and continues to collaborate in literary research.

Amílcar Noguera

Spanish Teacher
Amílcar is a professional Spanish-English-Italian translator, who graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 2010. He has a wide knowledge of translation techniques for technical manuals and texts related to the IT field. In 2012 he earned an Associate Degree in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language from the same Universidad Central de Venezuela and since then has taught Spanish for both general and business purposes. Currently, he provides services for the Australian Embassy in Santiago. He defines himself as a "citizen of the world" with a friendly personality and adaptablility to any type of situation.

Raúl Córtes

Spanish Teacher
Raúl is an English-Spanish translator who graduated from the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura (UCBC) and is fluent in both languages. His fascination for teaching Spanish blossomed during his university years, motivating him to complete the Diploma of Specialization in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Raúl has extensive language teaching experience and has taught English and Spanish in various schools and educational institutions. Currently, he is passionately dedicated to providing private lessons and collaborating with several language centers, where he shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for languages with his students. His commitment to excellence and ability to adapt to the individual needs of his students make him a highly valued and respected teacher in his field. 

Eyleen Prieto

Spanish Teacher
Eyleen holds a BA Language, specializing in Linguistics, graduating in 2012 from UCLV in Santa Clara, Cuba. With a diverse career that spans teaching at the University of Arts in Havana to her current role as a Spanish teacher on a prominent online platform, she has consistently demonstrated her proficiency in guiding students of varying levels and nationalities. Eyleen excels at tailoring her teaching materials to address the unique needs of her students. Residing in Chile since 2015, Eyleen has developed a deep familiarity with the Spanish spoken in Chile, which has allowed her to adjust her teaching to accommodate her diverse student base's linguistic and cultural requirements. Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Linguistics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), Eyleen is deepening her understanding of the language and its practical applications in the educational sphere. Proactive, organized, and responsible, Eyleen possesses strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and empathy, enabling her to build robust connections with her students. Her passion for teaching and communication and her cheerful and positive approach make her a valuable asset to our team.

Gabriela Gateño

Spanish Teacher
Gabriela has a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Universidad de Chile (UCH). She also holds a masters’ degree in Literature from the same university and obtained her Spanish teacher degree at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile. Her areas of academic interest focus mainly on poetry and philosophy. Areas in which she has specialized in her postgraduate thesis. With extensive experience in the field of teaching, she has taught literature classes at universities, colleges, academies, and cultural centers. Likewise, she has had vast experience teaching Spanish to foreigners in highly prestigious institutes nationwide, complementing this teaching work with the management of cultural and educational projects in embassies. She currently dedicates herself to university teaching, giving seminars, and teaching literature workshops.

Ignacia Martínez

Spanish Teacher
Ignacia graduated from the Universidad de Chile (UCH) with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. She went on to study English Language and Literature at the Universidad de Chile (UCH) as well. She volunteered with the program PME UChile, supporting exchange students with their Spanish and helping introduce them to Chilean culture. She has experience teaching private English and Spanish classes to adults and adolescents. She has also worked serving as a bilingual interviewer for the National Tourism Service. Her passion for engaging with other cultures has led her to learn French and Portuguese. She also took an introductory Swedish course at the Chilean Swedish Institute of Culture in 2020. In 2021, she completed a post-graduate program in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile.

Catalina Espinosa

Spanish Teacher
She holds a degree in Education with concentrations in French and French Teaching from the Universidad de Ciencias de la Educación, UMCE (2012). In 2010 and 2011, she moved to Saint-Céré, France, to teach Spanish to children and young adults in different schools in the Toulouse region of southern France. Through this experience, French became Catalina’s second language. She also realized her love of teaching Spanish language and culture, and dedicated herself to this passion upon her return to Chile. Since 2011, she has taught Spanish privately and in language schools to students from all over the world. Catalina also has an artistic side. For more than six years, she participated in her university’s chorus, which led her to tour throughout South America. She also participated in various theater, storytelling, and plastic arts groups. These interests have greatly enriched her work as a teacher of foreign languages, along with her love of learning about new cultures and traveling.  

Sabina Canales

Spanish Teacher
Sabina Canales has a degree in Language and Literature from the Univesidad Alberto Hurtado (UAH). She graduated in 2019 but has taught general and business Spanish to immigrants as well as in other Spanish teaching institutions since 2018. In 2020 she completed the Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile. She has been certified as an examiner in the two official Spanish tests, SIELE and DELE, in the latter she has her certification at all levels (A1-C2 and school). She currently works at the Laboratory of Phonetics and Language Sciences UAH as a research assistant which has allowed her to enrich her skills to explain the orality of Chilean Spanish. She is also studying a Master's in Health Psychology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) of Chile, where she studies linguistics from an interdisciplinary approach. Her research mainly deals with sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics, delving into topics such as the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language and effective communication.

Ángela Galdames

Spanish Teacher
Ángela holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Literature and Linguistics, as well as a Degree in Aesthetics with a concentration in Audiovisuals, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She also has a Graduate Degree in the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) from the same institution. In 2017, she was certified by the Cervantes Institute to prepare students for the SIELE Exam (International Evaluation Service of the Spanish Language). She has taken an English course, which allows her to use English as a Foreign Language, as well as several workshops, which have added to her area of expertise. These have helped her complete her training as a professor in Hispanic language and culture. Currently Ángela is also working as a language and literature professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).

Claudia Valenzuela

Spanish Teacher
Claudia has a bachelors’ degree in Education with a specialization in French from the Universidad de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE) and a Basic General Professor degree from the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (UAHC). She began teaching Spanish during her internship in France in the Brittany region at the Lycée René Cassin in 2006 and 2007. Upon her return to Chile, she worked both as a Spanish and French teacher for children, youth, and adults in prestigious language institutes in Santiago. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, her work as a professor has two aspects: on the one hand, teaching the language to Chilean students learning French, and on the other hand, teaching Spanish to foreign students, both inside and outside of Chile. One of the things that fills her with satisfaction is teaching. Her passion is to deliver knowledge and help people communicate and express themselves in both Spanish and French. She is characterized by being very cheerful, which generates pleasant and playful environments in her classes. This facilitates the acquisition of new knowledge and promotes the teaching-learning process.

Valentina Velásquez

Spanish Teacher
Valentina Velásquez is a professor of Language and Literature from Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE). In 2022, she successfully completed the Specialization Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Her interest in academia grew during this course, prompting her to study for a Master’s degree in Hispanic linguistics at the Universidad de Chile (UCh). Her research focuses on phenomena linked to learning Spanish as a foreign language. Valentina currently shares her experience in the classroom, teaching Language and Literature in schools, guiding students in developing reading skills to prepare for the PAES university entrance exam, helping prepare open exams for adults, and providing Spanish lessons. Additionally, she is perfecting her English language skills, further strengthening her ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.

Pilar Caraccioli

Spanish Teacher
Pilar graduated as a Primary Education Teacher with a major in Language from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Since then, she has gained vast experience in language teaching, as she has taught in prominent schools for more than 40 years. During this extensive career, Pilar has taught language lessons to children and young adults in middle and higher education, as well as Italian to children and adults. In addition, Pilar has continued to specialize and improve her professional development, carrying out various training courses and seminars. Among these, it is worth highlighting her Spanish Language Learning Methodology Course, Philosophy Course for Children and Learning Methodology Course for Children with Cognitive Disabilities (such as attention deficit disorder and children within the autism spectrum). Finally, it should be noted that Pilar has a good oral command of English and French, as well as a perfect command of Italian. Currently, Pilar works as a teacher of Spanish reinforcement lessons for children in primary and secondary education.

María Guadalupe Santano

Spanish Teacher
María Guadalupe Santano holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Philology from the Universidad de Extremadura (UEX), in Spain. She has completed two Master’s degrees at the same university: one in Teacher Training, and one in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. To complement her formal studies, she has taken various courses, including one which certified her as a DELE examiner. She has a great deal of experience, as she has taught Spanish to students of all levels and ages, from children to adults. Additionally, she has prepared many students for DELE exam, with excellent results. In her free time, María loves to travel, although her true passion is literature, which she demonstrates in her classes. Thanks to her work, María gets to explore her two fields of interest, language and teaching, and both of which have been enriched by her experiences in classes with people from all over the world.
