Francisca Zúñiga

Director of Español en Chile Institute
Francisca has a degree in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She also completed a master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), Spain. Also, to complete her training, she has participated in numerous courses, workshops, and conferences related to the area. She has also undertaken other language courses, such as English in Canada and the United States, and Italian in Italy. Her professional career involved working as a Spanish teacher for foreigners since 2009. In 2012 she founded Español en Chile Institute and assumed its direction. During 2018, she ran the institute while simultaneously teaching Spanish to diplomats and officials of the United Nations Organization (UN) at ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean). Since 2022 she works exclusively as director and coordinator of the school.

Carolina Carrizo

English teacher
Carolina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She has extensive experience teaching English and has also worked on translations across different fields.
She holds a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), which qualifies her to teach English and prepare students for the IELTS exam. She has taught learners of all ages, from young children to adults, and has worked in a variety of institutes and academic programs.
Carolina enjoys reading, watching films, and exploring different forms of artistic expression. She integrates these interests into her teaching, making learning a more dynamic and engaging experience for her students.

Rocío Torres

English teacher
Rocío has a BA in Translation (English and French) and graduated in 2019 from the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC). She has translated administrative documents mainly from Spanish into English since 2019. In addition, she was part of the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters (COTICH) from January 2022 to June 2023. In 2020, she started giving online English lessons as a freelancer in distinguished language institutes to both teenagers and adults. She obtained her Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) diploma to certify her level of English and continued her professional path by giving on-site classes in Concepción. In November 2023, she traveled to Europe to do a Master’s degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Teaching and Research in the Universidad de Valladolid (UVa), Spain to broaden her teaching skills and her knowledge of new digital resources for the classroom.

Amílcar Noguera

English teacher
Amílcar Noguera is a Spanish–English–Italian translator who graduated in 2010 from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV). He has extensive experience translating technical manuals and IT-related texts. In 2012, he completed the TKT Essentials teacher training program at the British Council in Venezuela, and in 2014 he earned an IELTS certificate with an overall band score of 8 out of 9. From 2017 to 2019, he worked with the Australian Embassy in Santiago while also teaching foreign languages at the Instituto Español en Chile.
He describes himself as a “citizen of the world” with a friendly personality and strong adaptability to different contexts.

Raúl Córtes

English teacher
Raúl is an English-Spanish translator who graduated from the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura (UCBC) and is fluent in both languages. His fascination for teaching Spanish blossomed during his university years, motivating him to complete the Diploma of Specialization in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Raúl has extensive language teaching experience and has taught English and Spanish in various schools and educational institutions. Currently, he is passionately dedicated to providing private lessons and collaborating with several language centers, where he shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for languages with his students. His commitment to excellence and ability to adapt to the individual needs of his students make him a highly valued and respected teacher in his field.

Matías Palacios

English teacher
Matías holds a BA in English Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), graduating with honors in 2021 for academic excellence. During his undergraduate years, he taught English while working with the university’s Inclusion Department as a tutor, which allowed him to engage with students from different disciplines. He also served as a teaching assistant, lecturing on English language with a focus on phonology.
Matías has taught English to both adults and children through private institutes. He holds a JLPT N3 certificate in Japanese (equivalent to CEFR B1), earned after an 11-month exchange program in Japan. His interests include music and writing, and he values the didactic potential of prosody and the arts, striving to create learning environments that integrate students’ personal interests with their learning process.

Luis Miranda Valdés

English interpreter teacher
Luis Miranda Valdés is an English–Spanish simultaneous and consecutive translator and interpreter, and holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Educational Technologies. For nearly two decades, he has taught translation and interpreting at both the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH) and UNIACC University. He has also participated in major international events, providing both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services, as well as translation.
Luis designs and leads workshops on liaison interpreting techniques, with an emphasis on active and collaborative learning. In addition, he has seven years of experience teaching English at different proficiency levels and preparing students for the TOEIC exam at the Manpower Chile Institute.

María Ignacia Martínez

English teacher
María Ignacia studied a Degree in English Language and Literature, graduating in 2018 from the Universidad de Chile (UCH). She participated as a volunteer in the PME UChile program supporting foreign exchange students in learning Spanish language and local culture. She has experience in English and Spanish teaching for adults and teenagers. Also, she has worked in the field of tourism as a bilingual interviewer (English-Spanish) for the National Tourism Service. Her passion for contact with foreign cultures has even led her to learn a little French and Portuguese. Likewise, she took a basic Swedish course, a diploma awarded by the Swedish Chilean Institute of Culture in 2020. In 2021, she obtained the Diploma specializing in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).
