Francisca Zúñiga

Director of Español en Chile Institute
Francisca Zúñiga holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), Spain. To complement her training, she has participated in numerous courses, workshops, and conferences in her field, as well as language courses abroad, including English in Canada and the United States, and Italian in Italy. She has been working as a Spanish teacher for international students since 2009.
In 2012, she founded the Español en Chile Institute, where she has served as Director since its establishment. In 2018, she combined her role at the institute with teaching Spanish to diplomats and officials of the United Nations (UN) at ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean). Since 2022, she has dedicated herself exclusively to directing and coordinating the institute.

Carolina Carrizo

English teacher
Carolina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). She has extensive experience teaching English and has also worked on translations across different fields.
She holds a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), which qualifies her to teach English and prepare students for the IELTS exam. She has taught learners of all ages, from young children to adults, and has worked in a variety of institutes and academic programs.
Carolina enjoys reading, watching films, and exploring different forms of artistic expression. She integrates these interests into her teaching, making learning a more dynamic and engaging experience for her students.

Rocío Torres

English teacher
Rocío earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Translation (English and French) from the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC) in 2019. Her interest in linguistic innovation led her to write her dissertation on synchronic changes in Spanish vocabulary with a focus on inclusive language. Since 2019, she has translated administrative documents—mainly from Spanish into English—and was a member of the Chilean Association of Translators and Interpreters (COTICH) from January 2022 to June 2023.
In 2020, Rocío obtained the DELF B2 diploma in French, which enabled her to work for six months as a Spanish teaching assistant in two schools in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region of France. In 2023, she earned the Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) diploma, certifying her level of English, and went on to teach in-person classes in Concepción.
Motivated by her growing passion for her native language, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Teaching and Research at the Universidad de Valladolid (UVa), Spain (2023–2024). In early 2024, she completed her master’s internship at the university’s Language Center, teaching culture and conversation courses as she began her career in the field.

Amílcar Noguera

English teacher
Amílcar Noguera is a Spanish–English–Italian translator who graduated in 2010 from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV). He has extensive experience translating technical manuals and IT-related texts. In 2012, he completed the TKT Essentials teacher training program at the British Council in Venezuela, and in 2014 he earned an IELTS certificate with an overall band score of 8 out of 9. From 2017 to 2019, he worked with the Australian Embassy in Santiago while also teaching foreign languages at the Español en Chile Institute.
He describes himself as a “citizen of the world” with a friendly personality and strong adaptability to different contexts.

Raúl Córtes

English teacher
Raúl is an English–Spanish translator who graduated from the Universidad Chileno- Británica de Cultura (UCBC) and is fluent in both languages. His passion for teaching Spanish began during his university years, which led him to complete a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Raúl has extensive teaching experience and has taught both English and Spanish at a variety of schools and educational institutions. He is currently dedicated to offering private lessons and collaborating with several language centers, where he shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for languages with his students. His commitment to excellence and his ability to adapt to the individual needs of his learners make him a highly valued and respected teacher in his field.

Matías Palacios

English teacher
Matías holds a BA in English Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), graduating with honors in 2021 for academic excellence. During his undergraduate years, he taught English while working with the university’s Inclusion Department as a tutor, which allowed him to engage with students from different disciplines. He also served as a teaching assistant, lecturing on English language with a focus on phonology.
Matías has taught English to both adults and children through private institutes. He holds a JLPT N3 certificate in Japanese (equivalent to CEFR B1), earned after an 11-month exchange program in Japan. His interests include music and writing, and he values the didactic potential of prosody and the arts, striving to create learning environments that integrate students’ personal interests with their learning process.

Luis Miranda Valdés

English interpreter teacher
Luis Miranda Valdés is an English–Spanish simultaneous and consecutive translator and interpreter, and holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Educational Technologies. For nearly two decades, he has taught translation and interpreting at both the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH) and UNIACC University. He has also participated in major international events, providing both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services, as well as translation.
Luis designs and leads workshops on liaison interpreting techniques, with an emphasis on active and collaborative learning. In addition, he has seven years of experience teaching English at different proficiency levels and preparing students for the TOEIC exam at the Manpower Chile Institute.

María Ignacia Martínez

English teacher
María Ignacia graduated from the Universidad de Chile (UCH) with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and later pursued studies in English Language and Literature at the same university. She volunteered with the PME UChile program, supporting exchange students with their Spanish and helping them become familiar with Chilean culture. She has experience teaching private English and Spanish classes to both adults and adolescents, and has also worked as a bilingual interviewer for the National Tourism Service. Her passion for engaging with other cultures has led her to learn French and Portuguese, and in 2020 she completed an introductory Swedish course at the Chilean Swedish Institute of Culture.
In 2021, she completed a postgraduate program in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).
